The Volkswagen Racing Cup series continues on April 17 for its seventeenth season seeing drivers take on Oulton Park for the opener on Easter Bank Holiday Monday. The races continue at Rockingham followed by Snetterton. The remaining rounds will be played out at Brands Hatch GP, Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, Thruxton and wrapping up at Donington Park at the end of September.

We asked Maximum Motorsport how their team is preparing for the VW Racing Cup. “We’ve been running an extensive winter testing program over the off season,” we were told by a Maximum Motorsport spokesperson. They continued, “The team have been travelling across the UK to the tracks that we will be competing at this coming season, making sure we have the cars set up to each event, and also giving our drivers the opportunity to progress their abilities to gain that tenth over their competitors.”

“The top three championship finishers from last season are back in 2017 to battle it out once again.”

With an important season ahead, we asked who the favourites for the Racing Cup will be. “The top three championship finishers from last season are back in 2017 to battle it out once again. Phil House’s return to series sees him back in his very successful JWB Motorsport Volkswagen Scirocco, House is one of only two Triple Champions in the series and will be gunning for the fourth. Tom Witts, Vice champion from 2016, has signed again for Maximum Motorsport which will see him attempting to go one better this year, competing the full season in the Green Maximum Motorsport Scirocco. Kenan Dole is back with Team Hard Racing and will be pushing for more podiums, a strong rookie season saw Dole spraying champagne early on in his 2016 campaign, we’re certain 2017 will be no different.”

“The Volkswagen Cup will be returning to Thruxton for the first time in nine years this season. The talented field will be put to the test to tackle the 3.79km ex-RAF airfield this September 3rd for the penultimate round of the season. We also see some very unique entrants to the series, in the form of two Audi TT Cup cars, which will be competing alongside the Volkswagen cars this year.”

A big thanks to Volkswagen Racing Cup for taking the time to talk to us!
