Audi have revealed that the new Audi A7 Sportback will be announced this Thursday, 19 October 2017, bringing with it new features that are expected to bring it closer to the newly designed 2018 Audi A8 models.
Details are scarce at the moment, but it’s expected that Audi will bring Audi AI – the defining feature of the new A8 that will put your car into a semi-autonomous driving mode – to the new A7 Sportback as an optional extra. It’s not expected that the new A7 will have this feature as standard, though, so prepare to pay the price if you want this model with autonomous driving features. In Audi’s teaser video, we can see the space where the Audi AI button will go, but the button isn’t there, which leads us to believe that this will only be a paid option when the car launches in early 2018.
The redesigned A7 Sportback will also have animated headlights, tail lights and indicators that will present themselves when the car starts up. We’re also shown a glimpse of the built-in, huge two-part infotainment system similar to the one found in the new A8, one for the main infotainment system, another to control in-car systems like climate control.
An interesting point in the teaser trailer shows off what looks like the air intakes for a potential Audi S7 model. A different paintwork is used, and the intakes themselves appear to fit more with modern Audi ‘S’ models. We expect there to be a joint A7 and S7 model announcement with hybrid models available from launch. This would make sense considering that the A8 will also get hybrid models from day one.
These screen captures from the teaser video give us our best look at the new design of the A7 (or S7) – sharp lines and a fierce front-end will make this car – in our opinion – even more in-demand than the new A8. That being said, we don’t expect the A7 Sportback to have as many of the luxurious features as the A8, such as the foot massager in the back of the driver seat.
