At Amazon’s surprise hardware-announcement event, the company revealed an all-new product: Amazon Auto. While it won’t grant you access to HOV lanes, Amazon Auto allows you to take Alexa with you on the road.
Broadcasting through your car stereo via Bluetooth, the device draws off your smartphone’s data plan and is powered by your car’s USB or 12V outlet. With the device, you can control all manner of functions using only your voice, just like you can with Amazon’s other Alexa-enabled products: play music and make calls.
Of course, the product also integrates with various mapping services, so you can get driving directions. It works with Waze by default, but Apple and Google Maps will also be available. The Drop-In feature, already available on products like Fire tablets and the Echo Show, is here as well. Using it, you can speak directly with those on your contacts list with a simple voice command.
Alexa can check your calendar or set reminders on the go and, utilising location-based programming, Alexa can turn on your smart home functions as you pull in the driveway.
For the time being, you can request an invitation to pre-order Echo Auto, which will come at a 50 percent discount. Have a browse here if you're interested!
