The latest version of the Amazon Fire TV Stick comes with an Alexa Voice Remote that allows you to control your TV with your voice.
The new hardware has a better processor for 30% more power, new software that makes the experience a whole lot smoother, and an Alexa Voice Remote. This version of the stick has been available in America since October, but it’s now up for pre-order from Amazon UK for £40 with deliveries starting at the beginning of April.
“Alexa, show me TV shows about cars.”
Although it still doesn’t come with 4K support, this is a bargain for £40. You can link up your Netflix, Spotify, BBC iPlayer, YouTube and – of course – Amazon Video accounts as well as many other apps that can link up to the Alexa voice controls. You’ll be able to search for local restaurants, order an Uber, check the weather and more.
If you start playing video content on Amazon’s Video service, you’ll be able to control the video stream by saying things like, “Go back 2 minutes” or “Skip ahead 5 minutes” and the Alexa software will make that happen for you. It’s likely only a matter of time before other apps like Netflix introduce this feature as well.
If you’re searching for something to watch, you can say, “Alexa, show me TV shows about cars.” The software will display search results from apps including Netflix, Amazon Video and more. You could tell Alexa, “Play The Grand Tour”. And when you start feeling peckish, you can place an order with Just Eat as well.
The possibilities of what you can do with the Alexa technology are growing all the time, and now the Amazon Fire TV Stick puts Alexa in your TV as well. Amazon is slowly bringing Alexa to every room of the house one device at a time.
