Audi is seeking acquisition of Silver Inc., a mobility technology company based in the US.
The purchase of the mobility service would include adding an exclusive airport rental service along with a portfolio of digital services for flexible vehicle use. Audi sees the acquisition as an important milestone in their initiative for innovative mobility services.
The startup, founded in 2012, is well-known in the US for its seamless customer experience and exceptional service levels – from reservation of vehicles to vehicle return via a mobile app. The Silvercar fleet currently consists exclusively of silver Audi A4 models.
Audi currently has a minority share in the company, but wants to expand their share to 100%. In the future, Audi and Silvercar plan to work together closely to expand the range of mobility services and products offered in the US. Together, the companies will work together to launch Audi mobility services as well.
“Audi and Silvercar share the same vision”
DIETMAR VOGGENREITER, AUDI
Silvercar received the “World Travel Award” as North America’s best rental car service in 2015. In recent months, Silvercar has significantly expanded its market presence to 15 locations in the US. The company, headquartered in Austin, Texas, has about 150 employees. Audi has held a minority share in Silvercar since 2015.
Since the beginning of their partnership the companies have collaborated to deliver Audi shared fleet in the US market. This Audi service for intelligent management of company cars began US operation in 2016. In addition, with Audi on demand, the Four Rings offers customers in San Francisco the option to flexibly book via app their preferred Audi model for the duration they wish.
The acquisition would certainly pave the way for new Audi mobility initiatives around the world as well. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if the purchase is approved.
