Hot on the heels of the second-gen Q5 unveiling at Paris Motor Show, Audi took the wraps off a refreshed SQ5 with the S5’s turbocharged V6 petrol engine.
The engine on the Audi SQ5 will offer 354bhp with a 0-62mph sprint of just 5.4 seconds. Instead of using a diesel engine like in the previous SQ5 and the SQ7, Audi have opted for the petrol V6 engine to power their sporty SUV.
There will be only one transmission, a fast and smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic gearbox. The lower gears will give short, sporty ratios while the higher gears will have low revs to make the car consume less fuel and make it more efficient.
The quattro all-wheel drive system gives the SQ5 sporty handling and, during normal driving, the car will distribute the engine power with a slight bias on the rear-axle. The new electromechanical power steering with S-specific tuning improves the driving dynamics of the SQ5 as well.
Even when stationary, an array of details underline the dynamic characteristics of the new Audi SQ5
The top-of-the-line infotainment system in the SQ5 is MMI navigation plus with an 8.3″ touch screen display. The system recognises handwritten inputs and also touch gestures familiar from your smartphone such as pinching to zoom. This model is expected to come with the popular Audi Virtual Cockpit as standard and will have an S-specific sport mode centred around the dials.
LED technology will be standard for all lighting functions, and the stylish dynamic turn signals ensure a high recognition factor when manoeuvring around corners. The dark tone interior welcomes the driver with illuminated door sills bearing the ‘S’ logo.
The Audi SQ5 is expected to come with 20-inch alloys, LED headlights and S-specific damper control, sport seats and a three-spoke, leather-covered, multi-function steering wheel all as standard.
