Tell us a bit about yourself. Who are you and what do you do for a living?
My name is Dino, I’m 23 years old and from the Midlands. I love fancy watches and cars – two very expensive hobbies! I sell watches online for a living.
How did you get in to trading watches?
I used to work for a family owned jewellers selling high end watches. After a few years in the trade, I decided to set up my own business and have a go myself. The first year of business was slow due to being a new start up. After 12 months, things really started to get going and most business conducted was from either repeat customers or word of mouth.
Your clients must be extremely varied. How do you analyse the needs of a client without being intrusive?
We offer a personalised service and operate on a zero pressure basis. Customers are welcome to contact us for anything watch related, and we regularly give people advice on potential purchases, comparing options and prices, or even just simply to give history on a family heirloom. With many years of experience in the business, we always work in the best interests of our customers and are always happy to help with a zero pressure approach.
Can you give us some tips on what we should be looking for in a good watch?
It’s very important to be meticulous when choosing a new watch. There are so many very good replicas out there, but there are enough good resources to help you. We are always happy to authenticate any watch you may purchase elsewhere, simply send us some photos and we’ll be able to tell you right away.
Is there anything you think we should avoid when it comes to buying a watch?
It’s very important to buy a watch that has all original box and paperwork with it, this way you will be able to identify which country the watch was purchased, the true age, and make sure the serial number on the watch matches the paperwork. If you’re in the market for a new watch and you find one that looks “too good to be true” and priced very cheap, that’s normally the case. Our best advice would be to either send it in to us so that we can verify it, or walk away from the deal!
What do you like most about your job?
Meeting new people and sharing a passion with like minded people! Just like cars, watches bring people together and offer a great talking point.
Do you have a favourite watch? If yes, what’s the story behind that watch that makes you like it so much?
It’s very difficult to say which watch is an all-time favourite as there are so many to choose from! However, one special piece that comes to mind would be a Rolex Day Date, famously nicknamed “The President” as they were worn by them when first introduced and have always been known to symbolise success.
What car are you currently driving?
I drive a Mercedes Benz SLK, great to get the top down in the summer!
If money was no object, what would be your perfect car and what watch would you need to wear while driving it?
Very difficult question! – I have so many different combinations, if money was no object I would have to go all out and go for a Rolls Royce Phantom with a Rolex Day Date.
Do you have any plans for The Watch Guy in the future?
