Malt Master Brian Kinsman has proven that traditional whisky casks can still be seasoned in a pioneering way with the Glenfiddich IPA Experiment. The Speyside distillery geniuses chose to use craft beer Indian Pale Ale casks to create an unusually hoppy whisky.
Kinsman says, “The idea behind the Glenfiddich IPA experiment was quite unusual, but one we were passionate about – we wanted to really play with the flavours to see what we could create.”
The first single malt whisky finished in IPA craft beer casks.
Expect zesty, citrus notes from the IPA casks followed by the long aftertaste of the rich oak barrels used in the process. The folks over at Glenfiddich suggest serving with a large ball of ice and a twist of blood orange.
