Audi-owned Italian design company, Italdesign, have announced that they will be releasing their first car at Geneva Motor Show.
Previously, Italdesign have designed cars for Audi, Lotus, Alfa Romeo and others, but now they’re taking to the show floor with a their own car brand, Italdesign Automobili Speciali. The new brand will create extremely limited-edition vehicles such as their first car, which will only have five models released.
The carbon-fibre body houses a 5.2-litre Audi R8 V10 engine and can reach 205mph after sprinting 0-62mph in a face-warping 3.2 seconds. The design is unique and has sharp, straight lines reminiscent of a Lamborghini.
If you want to buy one of the five models being produced, you’ll have to save up $1.6million – pocket money for the rich and the famous. Plans for further models by the new brand mean that a new Italdesign car could be up for sale every 18 – 24 months with some models getting “up to 99” units and others getting “up to 9” units.
“To achieve the performances we had in mind, we had to dare beyond all limits from styling and even purely technical points of view.”
The car will be heading straight to the show floor for a Geneva Motor Show debut where the carmaker likely wants to make an impact big enough to get celebrities and rich folk reaching for their chequebooks. The design of the car is unusual, but the power and exclusivity of the car should do the talking for them.
