They're showing this off in a stunning SUV concept that is following the trends of Paris Motor Show by having a digital LED panel in lieu of a grille, Mercedes are calling this the 'Black Panel'. Think of Generation EQ in the same way you would think about Volkswagen's MEB - it's a design architecture that will form the rulebook for future Mercedes electric vehicles.
You'll be able to get 100 miles of range with only 5 minutes of charging.Much like Volkswagen, Mercedes also have bold claims about their battery recharging capabilities when their Generation EQ cars come to market. They say that you'll be able to get 100 miles of range with only 5 minutes of charging. It's a bold claim, and we hope it lives up to the expectations. Another trend of Paris Motor Show concepts this year is the touch-screen, driver-oriented controls. Mercedes have focused on making sure that the cockpit is highly technical, but also follows the same electro look as the exterior of the car. They hope that the Generation EQ concept gives a preview of user interaction in their future cars. Following Tesla's lead, the carmaker suggests that Generation EQ vehicles will charge from a wallbox for fast charging, but also says that they expect the car to be induction chargeable. That would certainly be interesting if the 5 minutes for 100 mile range holds up. Charge your car at traffic lights, anyone? Mercedes-Benz are fully dedicated to driver safety and have implemented HERE driver assistance technology into their concept. They give a scenario where your car is driving towards a roundabout and, using HERE technology, your car knows the size and curve of the road ahead and adjusts speed and driving dynamics to improve driver comfort. The first Generation EQ vehicle is expected to go into production in 2019.
