Volkswagen Opens New Factory for the New Crafter
Volkswagen has opened a new factory in Poland to produce 100,000 all-new Crafter vans per year with around 3,000 employees producing 17 per hour.Amidst all of Volkswagen's latest car news, and in the run up to a much-anticipated Golf refresh (to be announced early in November), VW still had time to open a new factory in Poland for the production of their all-new Crafter van. Around 3,000 employees will build 100,000 vehicles annually - 17 per hour! This should help the company bolster new business, while also keeping suppliers happy with 45 companies bringing their materials to the factory. The 220 hectare site cost the Volkswagen Group over 800 million euros, but it's a good move for them as it expects to ride on the wave of success that the new Crafter has had after being named 'International Van of the Year 2017' by a renowned selection committee. Dr Eckhard Scholz, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, explained that the brand had confidently mastered a "dual challenge" – namely developing an excellent van while simultaneously building its advanced production site. "We are proud of the precise and on-schedule implementation of this project, and above all of the people who made it happen."
