One thing that was missing when Volkswagen revealed the new Golf range was a 2017 Golf R, but we can see what it looks like in these stunning press images.
The Golf R now has a power output of 310PS (up from 300PS) making it the most powerful Golf model ever. This increase in power means that the new Golf R can hit 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds (a 0.3 second improvement from the previous generation).
The new model keeps a similar styling, as with the rest of the 2017 Golf range, with only minor design changes to keep it looking fresh. The new Golf R has the same new features as the rest of the new models – gesture controlled infotainment system, new driver assistance technologies and much more.
Also shown off in the images is the Golf R Estate – an estate version of the Golf R. The Estate model is still 310PS, but no details about 0-62mph have been announced just yet. With the huge range of new Golf models that are available now, it’s clear that Volkswagen are betting big on the Golf for 2017.
It’s still expected that VW will announce a new Polo range in a similar style to the new Golf range, but whether this will be at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017, or whether it will be later in the year after the Golf range has rolled out, we’re still unsure.
