The CUPRA Born: CUPRA's first all-electric vehicle (EV)

The CUPRA Born is CUPRA's first EV and is nearly identical to the Volkswagen ID.3, both of which are based on the Volkswagen Group MEB (Modular Electrification Toolkit) platform. The CUPRA Born marks a new era for the brand, with this all-electric vehicle now sitting beside a lineup that includes the CUPRA Formentor, Ateca and Leon, which all include plug-in variants.

With a focus on sporty design and renewable e-mobility energy, the CUPRA Born is no slouch when it comes to performance. With the fastest model doing 0 to 62mph in just 6.6 seconds. Batteries available include:

  • 45kWh with 150bhp
  • 58kWh with 204bhp
  • 77kWh with 231bhp

These batteries offer 150bhp, 204bhp and 231bhp respectively. The 45kWh battery offers 211 miles of range, whilst the 58kWh gives you a healthy 260 miles. The 77kWh battery will come in two forms, a rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive and will offer a fantastic 335 miles of range.

CUPRA says the Born can charge up to 62 miles in just 7 minutes using a 125kW rapid charger. A 5-80% charge will take around 35 minutes on the same 125kW charger, which is incredibly fast.

The CUPRA Born will offer new technology such as Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), which helps to keep the cars drive smooth when driving aggressively. As well as an Augmented Reality Heads-up Display which will feature floating information on the windscreen. The CUPRA Born also benefits from bespoke 235mm wider tyres to help keep the car stable during fast-paced driving. You can opt for standard 215mm tyres if you prefer.

On the interior, you get a fancy 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, digital cockpit with fully digital gauge cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, CUPRA Connect and touch-sensitive icons.

The CUPRA Born comes with travel assistance, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and emergency assistance as part of the standard model. Optional tech which will cost money to add on includes a reversing camera, intelligent parking assistance and high-beam assistance.

CUPRA says the Born is made from recycled materials that impact the environment less. The bucket seats are made from Seaqual yarn and recycled Dinamica microfibers are used for the seats and door panels. This makes sense given the CUPRA Born is aiming to help the environment with e-mobility.

When is the CUPRA Born out and how much will it cost?

CUPRA have said they will announce pricing in Q4 2021, so expect pricing to drop between October and December 2021. Deliveries are expected to start rolling out at the beginning of 2022. So expect presales to start in Q4 2021 into 2022.
