VW Tanoak gives a peek at the Amarok’s future

The Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak, a huge pickup that has been developed for American markets, gives us a glimpse at what could lie in store for a future generation of the VW Amarok. Although it is a concept designed to find out whether Americans will take kindly to more models, it certainly has a lot of inspiration from the existing Amarok.

This five-seat double-cab pickup is the first pickup to use VW’s MQB platform. With a slightly increased power to the Amarok, the Tanoak has a 3.6-litre V6 engine with a powerful 276bhp and 4Motion tech alongside an eight-speed automatic transmission. Huge LED lighting panels cover the front grille and rear of the truck. To impress Americans further, the Tanoak also sports 20″ alloys and two towing hooks.

We like the Atlas Tanoak design study – maybe a bit more if the LED lighting was toned down a bit – and we can’t wait to see what this means for the future of the Amarok.
