This is the new Volkswagen Tiguan - the extended wheelbase Allspace model that has an optional third row of seats, updated styling and plenty of new details.
The Tiguan Allspace fills a hole that shouldn’t have been there in the first place. Previously, if you wanted a seven-seater Volkswagen, you only really had the Touran 7-Seater. Now, the new Tiggy squeezes seven seats in to the same, popular SUV format with an extended wheelbase thanks to an optional third row configuration.
The longer, more spacious Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace also gets a new design with an updated bonnet and grille, which helps to identify to new model as a refreshed look at the family-friendly vehicle. Remember that Volkswagen officials have already said that there will be plenty of new variations of the Tiguan family being revealed soon, and this subtle redesign is likely to be the face of all of them.
4MOTION is available on most engines as standard with only one not offering it at all.
The Allspace will come with both petrol and diesel engines from launch including 4WD options and manual or DSG transmissions. The top-spec petrol engines will have 217bhp, but the diesel engines can push out up to 237bhp. No matter which diesel engine you choose, the Tiguan Allspace will have a 12 litre AdBlue tank as well.
To sweeten the deal, the new Tiguan Allspace Highline model comes with roof rails, multifunction steering wheel, LED headlights, keyless entry and that incredible infotainment system with gesture control – found on the latest Golf models – all as standard! That’s a lot of kit that you wouldn’t normally get on the normal Tiguan models.
4MOTION AWD is available on the majority of the engines with only the 148bhp diesel engine not offering it as standard, and only the lowest petrol engine not offering it at all.
To confuse matters, the American version of this car will simply be called the Volkswagen Tiguan – because it is the only Tiguan model available in the USA – however, in the UK it will be the Allspace as the original Tiguan models will remain in the range.
It's nice to see that Volkswagen haven't held back with the engines on this new model, and it was great to see just how much luggage space this car gets with all the rear seats down. We can't wait to see these cars on the road.
