Limited edition Audi A8 celebrates 21 years

To celebrate 21 years since the Audi A8 was first introduced, Audi announced a special limited-run model named the Audi A8 Edition 21.

Just 121 vehicles were produced, each designed to showcase what Audi described as a carefully balanced blend of design, advanced technology and luxury — all key characteristics of the brand’s flagship saloon.

The Edition 21 stood out thanks to a tailored selection of interior and exterior enhancements, beginning with the recently introduced Sport styling package. Inspired by the performance-focused Audi S8, this package included redesigned front and rear bumpers, more pronounced side sills and a sportier overall appearance. At the time, this styling was typically reserved for standard wheelbase A8 models.

Technology was also a major highlight. The Audi A8 Edition 21 featured Adaptive Audi Matrix LED headlights as standard — one of the most advanced lighting systems available on a production vehicle at the time. These were complemented by LED rear lights and dynamic indicators at both the front and rear.

Power came from an EU6-compliant 3.0-litre V6 TDI engine producing 262 PS and 580 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. Power was delivered through an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission, paired with Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system.

Acceleration from 0 to 62 mph took just 5.9 seconds for standard wheelbase models, increasing slightly to 6.1 seconds for long wheelbase versions. Both variants were electronically limited to a top speed of 155 mph.

Despite its performance, the Audi A8 Edition 21 also delivered strong efficiency for its class. Combined fuel consumption reached up to 47.9 mpg, with CO₂ emissions of 155 g/km for standard wheelbase models. Long wheelbase versions recorded up to 47.1 mpg and emissions of 159 g/km.

Although the Audi A8 Edition 21 is no longer available, it remains an important milestone in the evolution of Audi’s flagship saloon, celebrating over two decades of innovation in comfort, technology and luxury.
