The MG4 XPower Will Be The Fastest MG You Ever Drive

The MG4 XPower Will Be The Fastest MG You Ever Drive

The MG4 hatchback EV was already the talk of the town thanks to its affordability and excellent range. But now MG has a powerful hot hatch version in the works.

The MG4 hatchback EV (electric vehicle) has already won several awards including Car of the Year thanks to its fantastic range, impressively high-quality interior and affordable pricing. Carwows famous Mat Watson has spoken about the MG4 saying:

"The MG4 is the best car I’ve driven all year. It looks great on the outside, MG has made huge strides with interior and infotainment quality and it’s a bargain compared with some electric vehicles from mainstream brands. It’s easily one of the best electric cars on sale right now".

So it makes sense for MG to go the extra mile and just like how Volkswagen has the ID.4 and ID.5 performance GTX models, MG has decided the MG4 will have its own performance model too. Enter the MG4 'XPower'.

Website DrivingElectric has given us some leaked specs on what the MG4 XPower might bring to the table. It will apparently use the same 61.4kWh battery as the already existing MG4 Trophy model and have a single rear-mounted motor that will produce 429 bhp and up to 600 Nm of torque.

The website goes on to suggest the MG4 XPower will be able to do 0 to 62 mph in just 3.8 seconds and have a max speed of 124 mph. That is wicked fast for a single-motor EV, as most fast EVs use a dual-motor setup.

Of course, the extra power means efficiency takes a hit, as is usual for most performance EVs compared to the standard models. Leaked specs say the XPower model will have a WLTP range of around 239 miles, which is around 42 miles less than the MG4 Trophy top-of-the-range model. Although, speedy rapid charging will be available thanks to the car possessing up to 150kW rapid charging capabilities.

This means you'll be able to charge the MG4 XPower from 10 to 80% in just 35 minutes. This brings it in line with most premium EVs, which usually possess up to 150kW rapid charging themselves

We don't have any images of the MG4 XPower yet but the leaked specs show the car will come with 18-inch sports alloys that feature orange brake calipers, privacy glass, a twin aero spoiler and automatic LED headlights.

There will be seven colours available from the get-go and an all-new colour called 'Racing Green', which may or may not be exclusive to the XPower.

Inside the XPower will come with a 10.25-inch colour touchscreen (which is standard on the normal MG4) and some plush Alcantara sports seats with metal foot pedals. Boot space is apparently dropping from 363 litres to 289 litres which is more than likely due to the extra space the bigger and more powerful rear motor is taking up.

It will come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration which by now everyone knows and loves.

Officially, there is no pricing information available as of the time of publishing this article. However, a single dealer has been found with an XPower model on their website. They are advertising it at £36,495, which means it may be a £4,000 increase compared to the top-of-the-range Trophy model.

We can't be certain about that price being correct but it certainly gives us some food for thought. Either way, we're very hyped about the MG4 XPower.
